Catholic Charities of Madison is proud to help recognize and support young people who live out their Catholic faith through compassion, service, and leadership. The Mary Jeanne Kennedy Anderson Youth Faith in Action Scholarship celebrates high school seniors who embody these values and are already making a difference in their parishes and communities.

Remembering Mary Jeanne Kennedy Anderson

Mary Jeanne Kennedy Anderson was a dedicated nurse, devoted mother, and committed volunteer who served on the board of Catholic Charities and various committees. Her life was marked by love for God, family, and children — and by her willingness to serve others. When she passed away in 2013, her family and Catholic Charities established this scholarship to carry forward her legacy of faith in action.

What the Scholarship Recognizes

Each year, two high school seniors from within the Diocese of Madison are awarded a $2,000 scholarship for their exemplary commitment to faith, academics, and service.
Recipients demonstrate:

  • A minimum 3.0 GPA and plans to attend college or technical school.
  • Active involvement in parish and community life, including leadership roles.
  • A clear commitment to living their Catholic faith through action and service.

Awardees will be recognized at the annual Frassati Fest celebration in Wisconsin Dells.

How to Apply

Applicants are asked to submit:

  • A completed application form.
  • A 300–400 word essay describing how they have put their faith into action and how they plan to continue doing so.
  • A personal reference questionnaire completed by a parish priest, deacon, or director of religious education documenting parish involvement.

Applications are due by Friday, December 12, 2025.

Why It Matters

Living our faith means more than belief, it means action. By recognizing high school seniors who are already making a difference, this scholarship affirms that service rooted in Catholic values is vital to the future of our communities.

Mary Jeanne Anderson’s life reminds us that every act of service is an expression of love for God and neighbor. Through this scholarship, Catholic Charities celebrates young people who embody that love and inspire others to do the same.
