Bishop Hying visits Parish Mobile Food Pantry in Highland

Catholic Charities News

Bishop Donald Hying of the Diocese of Madison visited the Catholic Charities Parish Mobile Food Pantry on Monday, Sept. 23 at Ss. Anthony and Philip Catholic Church, part of the St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Pastorate.

The visit was an opportunity for the bishop to meet volunteers, assist in the pantry’s setup and see the pantry in action. The visit also coincided with the feast day of St. Padre Pio, adding a special significance to the event.

The mobile food pantry, which serves around 200 households and approximately 750 individuals, is held at the church on the fourth Monday of every month at 4 p.m. There is no cost for participants, and all are welcome regardless of income level.

During his visit, Bishop Hying expressed his gratitude to the volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to support the community. His presence highlighted the importance of community support and the impact of collaborative efforts in addressing food insecurity, reflecting the core values of Catholic Social Teaching.

The Parish Mobile Food Pantry program continues to be a vital resource for many families across the Diocese of Madison, providing essential food supplies and fostering a sense of community and solidarity. The Highland pantry is one of 10 mobile pantries sponsored by Catholic Charities in a collaborative partnership with Catholic parishes and the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.
