#GivingTuesday 2022

Support This Year's Project at The Beacon

Goal: Provide Secure Power

Nearly all community members experiencing homelessness have a cell phone, largely through government assistance programs. Many, though, do not have reliable access to electricity to keep their phone charged.

The Challenge

For someone with unreliable transportation, limited resources, and largely unpredictable days, their phone is often a lifeline. Not only this, but it is essential when searching for employment or housing or finding health care or other services.

The Beacon does allow guests to charge their phone when a request is made. But too often phones are stolen or chargers are lost. This leads to conflict and altercations that Beacon staff must deescalate.

The Solution

a cell phone charging locker

Catholic Charities and The Beacon would like to purchase a cell phone charging locker. This unit would eliminate the concerns of lost or stolen devices and charging cords.

Capacity for eight phones

A charging locker would allow eight guests to securely charge their phones at the same time. It’s outfitted with charging cables in each bay and can power every phone on the market.

Fundraising Goal: $5,000

The cost to purchase, ship and install the phone charging locker and stand is about $5,000.

Help Us Raise $5,000

100%

The Beacon is committed to doing our part by serving all who walk through our doors with dignity and respect, meeting guests where they are at, and maintaining a safe environment for our guests as they overcome homelessness.

Our friends at the Tenney-Lapham Neighborhood Association (TLNA) want to push our #GivingTuesday fundraiser past the finish line! They’ve pledged $500 toward our secure cell phone charging station project. Can you help us raise the remaining $4,500 today?
