Meet Nick

At Catholic Charities’ Community Living Program, growth is not defined by limitations—it’s shaped by opportunity, connection, and the chance to live a full and meaningful life in the community.

For Nick, that journey has been unfolding for more than six years.

Nick lives in Montello with two roommates, where his vibrant personality and unmistakable smile make him known to everyone he meets. Living with cerebral palsy has never defined Nick—instead, it’s his energy, sociability, and love for the Chicago Bears that leave a lasting impression. If you spend even a few minutes with him, chances are you’ll hear all about the latest Bears game—whether you planned to or not.

When Nick first joined the Community Living in Montello, WI, he was working at a local workshop, Diverse Options, a job skills program for adults with disabilities, while also beginning to explore opportunities in the broader community. That exploration led him to a part-time role at a local restaurant, where he worked two days a week washing dishes and preparing silverware. It was a small step—but an important one.

Then came an unexpected challenge.

When Diverse Options in Montello closed its doors, Nick transitioned to another program farther from home. With the increased distance came a new obstacle—transportation—putting his job at the restaurant at risk. But Nick’s strong work ethic and positive attitude had not gone unnoticed.

Because of the impact he was already making, the restaurant offered him a full-time position, Monday through Friday.

Nick didn’t hesitate to accept this opportunity.

Today, Nick continues to thrive in his role, taking pride in his work and the independence it brings. More than that, he’s built meaningful relationships—co-workers who have become friends, and a workplace where he feels valued and included. And, of course, he’ll be the first to tell you that the free lunch doesn’t hurt either.

Nick’s story is a reflection of what Community Living makes possible. With the right support, individuals are empowered to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and build lives rooted in connection and purpose.

Because this work is about more than employment—it’s about belonging.

Not just participating—but contributing.

Not just supported—but empowered.

Not just living—but truly being part of a community.
