September 22 was a truly joyful and grace-filled day as Care Team Ministry and Walking with Moms in Need volunteers gathered for our first-ever joint retreat under the theme, “Seasons Change, Yet Our Roots Remain.”
From the beginning, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and inspiration. Bishop Donald J. Hying spoke about the heart of our work and reflected on the importance of slowing down. His words invited us to pause, listen for God’s presence, and remain rooted in the faith and values that sustain our mission through every season of change.
The day continued to unfold as Alisha Henning guided us through trauma-informed companionship– reminding us of the healing that can emerge when we accompany others with patience, dignity, and compassion. Later, she shared music’s profound restorative power to comfort, connect, and renew the spirit.
Following a lovely lunch and delicious dessert, the afternoon offered further opportunities for reflection with Peg Weber. Peg spoke on the importance of making the most of your fourth quarter of life. She explained how change and resilience are necessary for long-term ministry. The day wrapped up with an interactive Hawaiian blessing, sending everyone forth refreshed in spirit, strengthened in community, and renewed commitment.
