National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization providing advocacy, education, support and public awareness.  Learn more at https://www.nami.org/

NAMI Wisconsin is the state affiliate of NAMI. The mission of NAMI Wisconsin is to improve the quality of life of people affected by mental illness and to promote recovery. NAMI Wisconsin will accomplish its mission through the following:

  • Promote public education and understanding of mental illnesses.
  • Advocate at all levels of government and throughout the public sector to improve mental health care in Wisconsin.
  • Support affiliates by providing follow-up advice and counsel; educational and training programs and materials; access to financial resources as appropriate; and by offering conferences, seminars, and presentations.
  • Establish and strengthen local affiliates to keep with NAMI’s principles and guidelines.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)

The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is the leading peer-directed national organization focusing on the two most prevalent mental health conditions, depression and bipolar disorder.  DBSA’s peer-based, wellness-oriented, and empowering services and resources are available when people need them, where they need them, and how they need to receive them—online 24/7, in local support groups, in audio and video casts, or in printed materials distributed by DBSA, our chapters, and mental health care facilities across America.  Learn more at http://www.dbsalliance.org

Through the extensive online and print resources and our nearly 650 support groups and more than 250 chapters, DBSA reaches millions of people each year with in-person and online peer support; current, readily understandable information about depression and bipolar disorder; and empowering tools focused on an integrated approach to wellness.

Grassroots Empowerment Project

Grassroots Empowerment Project Inc (GEP) is a Wisconsin state-wide, non-profit organization that is controlled and directed by mental health consumers/survivors. 100% of the Board of Directors and 100% of the staff are persons self-identified as having mental illness. The group receives funding from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA), State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services, work under contract with OptumHealth, a variety of project grants, fee-for-service trainings and contracts, Community Shares of Wisconsin, and private donations. Dual Recovery Anonymous™

Dual Recovery Anonymous™ is an independent, nonprofessional, Twelve Step, self-help membership organization for people with a dual diagnosis. Our goal is to help men and women who experience a dual illness. We are chemically dependent and we are also affected by an emotional or psychiatric illness.
